Tuscola dairy farm has been a leader in tech utilization. ELLINGTON TOWNSHIP — Interest in animal feed and nutrition drew a Grand Rapids man to the Thumb to buy a dairy operation. Today, Robinson’s Paramount Enterprises Dairy operation milks about 1,500 cows. To help manage his dairy operation, Robinson uses the latest technology of wireless communication to keep track of each cow’s performance. Each cow wears a type of collar around its neck that keeps track of how long they chew their cub, how much they move around, each one’s milk production, and when they are ready to breed. “The best way to describe the SCR collar is kind of like it is a Fitbit, but for cows,” explained Brent Moyer, who is a working partner in the dairy farm. Paramount Enterprises Dairy has 20 employees who help do milking twice a day. Along with milking 1,500 cows, operating Paramount Enterprises Dairy includes farming 2,500 acres.
