Local dairy farmers as well as nurserymen, who grow a lot of plants, find it difficult to get enough American workers to fill jobs on their farms and nurseries.
Even though they may pay wages higher than those paid for other local jobs, employees just don’t seem to want to take the kinds of jobs offered.
This situation will probably become more serious because the national unemployment rate has dropped.
It might get even more difficult now that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have increased efforts to locate and remove undocumented immigrants.
That is why the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) continues to let lawmakers know that efforts to solve the immigration problem will require more than just law enforcement.
It will mean that farm employers, including dairy farmers, have access to a legal, secure workforce.
