Why I Farm is an occasional feature in the Finger Lakes Times. The essays are provided by the local Farm Bureau.

Bruce Austic owns Austic Farms. It is a family farm. They grow crops including corn and soybeans.

One of the goals of Austic Farms is to improve the soil and use fewer inputs. Bruce has done this by using technology to improve soil health, such as spreading thousands of tons of lime to bring the pH from 4.8 to 7.0, and reducing fuel and other inputs by using larger planters, combines and tractors……..
